Today was a bloody good time! It started out at the Tower of London, we saw everything there was to see and then some. The crown jewels, Ann Boleyn's crypt, torture devices, and lots of swords, shields and armour. Next we ate a traditional lunch, I had beef stewed in cornish ale with roasted veg and potatoes. Yvonne had roasted thyme chicken with yorkshire pudding. It was good for tourist food-mine tasted like British chili. Next we went on a Thames river cruise, then over to peak in the window of All Hallows Church. It is as old as London, or so they claim. Then we hopped the tube and went to see the old operating theatre-what an amazing place. It is in the attic of a church and it was barbaric. They had ether masks, body parts in jars, heaps and piles of herbs in attic gables and old surgical instruments. It was delightfully gruesome. Next we hobbled (my feet were getting sore) over to Southwark Cathedral, where John Harvard, Shakespeare and Chaucer were known to hang. Best part, impromptu prayers by a long haired vicar and the sanctuary cat. I didn't see her, but her bowl was by the baptismal fount. How apropos, water bowl next to baptismal water- I wonder if the cat sneaks up on the bowl at night to lap the water, just like my cat laps out of the sink (or worse yet, the toilet). Then we wandered down the street to see a replica of Sir Francis Drake's ship and wound up in a 300 year old pub. I had a glass of cyder, and we drank to poor service and tourism. We rounded out the night with burgers, I had a falafel burger with chips, i.e. fries. Overall a well spent day.
